How Salesforce backup works
Backups run automatically, with no scripts to maintain. After the first full copy, each run captures only the data that was created or edited, so jobs finish faster and use fewer resources and less storage. Replication uses patented time segmentation with auto-adjusting intervals, restarts on its own after connection problems, and writes to a relational database, not flat files.
Frequency is yours to set. Every plan includes automated daily backups. Enterprise adds high-frequency backups, as often as every 5 minutes, which limits your worst-case data loss to the length of your last backup interval. History tracking keeps prior versions of your records, and proactive alerts tell your team if a job fails. Backups cover standard and custom objects, files and attachments, content documents, Chatter feeds, Knowledge articles and person accounts, and are available for Salesforce, Marketing Cloud and Pardot.

How Salesforce recovery works
When something goes wrong, you choose the point in time and the data to restore. Recover any field in any record, a single record with or without its parent-child relationships, or an entire hierarchy. Related records, custom objects, content documents, attachments and files come back too, with relational integrity intact, which a CSV reload can't offer.
A patented hyper-threaded restore engine runs recovery in parallel and writes directly back to Salesforce, with no manual CSV re-upload. Recovery speed depends on your data volume, Salesforce API limits and org configuration, so any vendor quoting one universal recovery time without seeing your org is estimating. Authorized team members can start a restore themselves, without a support ticket, and role-based access (Admin, Restricted and Reader) controls who can change production data. Fresh sandboxes need realistic data. On the Enterprise plan, sandbox seeding fills data-only sandboxes from your backups, and sandbox anonymization masks sensitive fields before data leaves production. Core includes one sandbox backup and Pro includes two. Seeding and metadata compare carry no separate fee.
Where your data is stored
Your backup lives in your own database, in your own environment. Sesame Software runs on your infrastructure, whether that is an on-premise server, AWS or an Azure private cloud, so there is no off-site data storage and no third-party service involved.
